Working in Edinburgh

The University of Edinburgh is a fantastic place to work with a wide range of facilities and expertise, and Edinburgh is a great city to live in.

The Institute of Immunology and Infection Research

The Institute of Immunology and Infection Research (IIIR) offers a varied and dynamic scientific environment covering pure parasitology, immunity to parasites, allergy and autoimmunity, and fundamental immunology. We have a unique range of expertise in parasitic infection models including Litomosoides sigmodontis, Schistosoma mansoni, Brugia malayi, Nippostrongylus brasiliensis, Heligmosomoides polygyrus, Trypanosoma brucei, Plasmodium spp., and Leishmania spp., and there is a high level of interactions between groups. We are paired with the Institute of Evolutionary Biology, which provides a unique interdisciplinary environment and resulted in the formation of the Centre for Immunity, Infection, and Evolution. As part of the Edinburgh Infectious Diseases community we maintain close links with infection researchers throughout Edinburgh.

In regard to facilities the IIIR provides direct access to a state-of-the-art flow cytometry suite, as well as confocal microscopy in the Pathogen Imaging Facility. A wide range of other facilities are available within the University of Edinburgh (listed here), and through the Centre for Immunity, Infection, and Evolution.
